Housing for 3 to 6 months
A term at ULiège, an internship, an exchange semester: in Liège, most Erasmus students live in the city centre, a few minutes on foot from the classes at the XX Août and from the places to go out. But searching for a few months is not always simple. Here is where to look and how to go about it.
The types that suit it
Kots freed up for a semester. Every year, students leave on Erasmus or internships themselves and sublet their kot for the time they are away. It is the most abundant source of housing for a semester, especially from February to June and from September to January.
Residences. Many private residences offer contracts for a semester or a few months, furnished and all inclusive. More expensive per month, but with no surprises.
The room in the owner's house. Private people who rent out a room in their home often accept short stays, and the family atmosphere helps you find your feet in a new city.
"Short stay" listings. Some landlords offer their housing for a few months only, or between two yearly rentals.
How to search
- Put your dates in your profile. Your rental duration filters the listings for you, and landlords see at once that your request matches their offer.
- State your dates from the first message: arrival date, departure date, and whether they are flexible. A landlord looking for someone for a semester answers the clear requests first.
- Start early: two to three months before you arrive. For February, the kots freed up by students leaving on Erasmus appear in November or December.
- Check what is included: a short stay goes better fully furnished, with internet and flat-rate charges.
The points to clear up
- The exact dates of arrival and departure, written in the contract.
- The amount of the deposit and when it will be returned to you, since you will leave soon.
- The charges: flat rate (simpler for a short stay) or a statement when you leave.
- The inspection report, at move-in as at move-out.
